Mandarin Christian School Reviews

I have pulled all three of my children from MCS. We started in elementary school and when they made it to middle school to play sports this is when the disappointment set in. MCS has a long way to go before the athletic department is successful. I believe some changes in the administration would be a big help. I love this school and would like to see changes made to the athletic department. Then we probably would consider coming back.

I moved my kids from public school to MCS for the academics not the sports program. MHS have a talent pool of about 750 athletes out of 3000 students. Only about 3% plays at the collegiate level. MCS have about 30 true student athletes to choose from out of 114 highschool studentsand those athletes play 2-3 sports. MCS has coaches that have played college, professional coached highschool and professional sports. This coming school year there will be athletes that transfer or return to MCS because of the improvement of the sports program. I read these reviews alot andmy suggestion is if you have a complaint about MCS, along with the complaint offer a suggestion to make it better.

I have 3 children who attend this school. My oldest son has been there for 7 years. The teachers love and pray for our kids every day. You will not find a more caring and attentive staff at any school, here or abroad. And I have complete and total faith in the administration and trust their decisions without question. From the moment you walk through the door, you feel like you belong. From my experience here, the only thing lacking are the sports programs/coaching.

I was impressed with the steps our staff took when they held an all school yard sale just to raise money for financial aid to help keep families at our school during a hard financial time. Most schools would have used that money for their everyday budget, but our school cares about the families that attend and THAT is exactly why we're there. Factor in the high level curriculum and the Godly teachers, and you have a school that is second to none in the Jacksonville area.

My daughter is finishing up her first year of kindergarten. She absolutely loves it. The teachers and staff are very nuturing. I'm very pleased with the program.

I pesonally love Mcs and would never want to go any where elese the teachers are very helpful and supportive and i feel that with this education i can go very far. I have friends in my grade that will be changing next year and what i want to know is why why why...........

I love MCS! I have 4 children in this school from 1st grade up to my senior who graduates this year. 2 of them went to kindergarten here. Wonderful program! After having them in public and other private schools, I can say with confidence that this school is the place for a Christian education and foundation! Our students are out there. Our Marketing Director has our students write up articles that have been in newspapers. We have students who have been accepted into ivy league programs! MCS is out there, someone has their eyes closed. My senior daughter is prepared for college because our teachers care. They help them achieve success! I can honestly say that I feel decisions are prayed over and discussed at length. It s very comforting knowing that there is a true love and concern for preparing students for college, work and a Christian life in general.

I love this school. I can't imagine sending my kids anywhere else. GREAT teachers, great academics, great opportunities. While public schools are cutting fine arts and PE, MCS is expanding in those areas!!! So important for our kids...

I thave 3 childen attending MCS. Two in the elementary school and one in middle school this year and high school next year. We have been part of MCS for 8 years and I could never imagine leaving. The most wonderful, loving, staff, and teachers around. High quality acedemics and postive Christian atomosphere is what makes MCS so special. I would not want my children any other place!

I was just reading the other reviews and noticed that someone wrote that marketing wasn't really doing anything and they saw nothing that screams MCS. I find that to be inaccurate as I see MCS ads and information all over Jacksonville. I've seen our ads in local newspapers on several occasions, as well as actual articles written about our school. This is the very reason I even found out about the school. I was just coming to this site to boast about the leadership and teachers of our school. As a fairly new family to MCS, one that has been to a total of 3 other schools before MCS, I can say that this is a special place. The leadership has evident hearts for Christ, and the teachers are phenomenal. I'm eager to see where our new Headmaster will take us.

MCS offers a strong curriculum that is challenging for my son. In this society of 'teaching to the FCAT', crude behavior in the public schools, unqualified teachers whose tenure secure their jobs, we are blessed to have the opportunity for a real education. The public schools and many of the private schools in Jacksonville are just plain sad. The small class size is hard to beat and the teachers are like none I've seen before - caring, dedicated and competent. I recently read that it is not a requirement for private schools to ensure teacher certification, but after researching our own school, I found that all MCS teachers are certified and beyond! We love this school!

I love it here. Most of my teachers are always willing to help. Why would anyone say mktg isn't doing anything? Have you looked around lately? Our new sign out front, my friends were written about in the mandarin newsline plus my friends at mandarin high said they saw articles about us in the paper, kayla's picture is plastered all over the place with our information, i even signed up for the newsletter email which we didn't used to get. Crazy people. Anyway sometimes we get a lot of homework but i guess we're supposed to. Homecoming was awesome!

Striving for excellence, but not perfect. None of us are after all. Kingdom Education with commited hearts at the helm are steering this vessel. We are all works in progress.

We had a great year at MCS this year. My child's teacher was very involved and was helpful with a specific problem we dealt with at the beginning and middle of the year. After talking with friends who have children in public schools, I'm so glad we made a decision to send our child to a Christian School. The Fine Arts department is top-notch and has more options/variety than most other schools in this area. MCS - you're doing great!

I'm so thankful for a school with teachers and leaders who are grounded in God's word, and making it a priority to instill that on my children. After watching an incredibly special inaugural senior graduation last week, I have a renewed sense of excitement at the future my children have in this school. This is an awesome, God-centered school and my family couldn't be happier. Highly recommended!

Wow! What a great education my child is getting. My friends child transferred to public school after 8 years at MCS and says public school is way to easy. He is in all advance classes now.

My daughter loves MCS. We have been very pleased with the teachers. While it is not perfect, it is a good school. I find it interesting that many of the parents that complained about the school have trouble writing sentences that are grammatical correct!

Thank God it is almost over. The school I once loved is falling apart at the seams. Elementary leadership is awesome but homework is overbearing! I'm tired of spanish being driven down our throats a well. Exercise please the kids need it daily! Healthy food is a must! my child got 7 nachos and had to ask for more, which they wanted me to pay for! defensive, non listening administration. Time to open the eyes up the school is drowing. The sports department is ran horribly! This school was top notch at one time and still can be but there's been a lot of damage! Lots to fix, morale is down and parents in the hallway aren't happy.

I was so relieved when MCS added high school. The thought of sending my child to public high school was terrifying! Academically, other schools just don't compare. And the Fine Arts department has so much more to offer than I have seen elsewhere. I have also had the opportunity to see first hand the caring nature of the principal and dean, and I'm quite sure we would never get this kind of family atmosphere from most other schools. I love this school and so does my child.

The school has really gone down hill in the past two years. i'll be withdrawling my children. the sports program (or lack there of) has coaches that never even played their sport, not smart or safe. kids scream the Lord's name in vain, not one adult intercedes. Biblical world view doesn't seem to be the quest more like your pocketbook. administration is unapprochable and takes ligitimat issues personally and defensively. they think we parents dont get it but we do get it. Too much homework, too tough schoolwork, no time for kids to be kids. 8 hours a day should be sufficient to learn. hours of useless homework. pushing way too hard way too fast on our youth. I want my kids to remember having fun growing up not always doing homework thee teachers aren't teaching. no wonder teen issues are on the rise they never have down time.

This is our first year at MCS and my son is in First grade. After such a bad time in the Duval county public schools for kindergarten we decided to make a change. His teacher is great and the elementary school principal has gone above and beyond for my son. My only complaint is that it is very expensive and with our second child entering kindergarten next year it will be very rough and I dont know if we can send them long term. I just wish a christian education was more affordable for a middle class family with 2 kids. and the second child discount of 135.00 for the year(13.50 per month) didnt really help when this school will be getting about 17,000 dollars from me next year with tuition and before and after care for my 2 kids. I think they need a better second child discount.

MCS has great teachers for the most part, there are a few that never smile and always bite your head off or are gossiping about the students and other teachers in the halls. The AD is unapproachable and rude. The sports program is drowning and the heads of school need to get his heads out of the sand and start listening to what the parents and students want and need sense she won't. My girls have had more friends leave this school for this very reason. Favortism is so apparent with the softball program as I'm sure others. I mean can his daughter win the award every? Mine don't even play and would never for this school. You can't tell me the AD can't see that! teacher always sitting at desk and not teachig when I go. Curriculum is too hard for an average student. Don't build MCS they won't come.

Mandarin Christian School has been such a great experience for my child and my family. It is like a second home to us. MCS has such a caring staff and active parent organization. Thanks and keep up the great job.

We have two children in the school. One in the upper school and one in the lower school. We love this place. What a great blend of Christian perspective, academic excellence, and extra-curricular activities. MCS is a safe and caring place and they really do want what is best for each child and family. We love to volunteer and be involved in our children's school and MCS allows us to be active participants in the education of our children. We highly recommend the school to our friends and those that are looking for a Christian school experience.

MCS is a terrible horrible place. The tuition ends up being, like, 3 times more expenisve than they say too. Hidden costs galore! Academics are bad and so are the sports teams. My kids hate this place.

The academics at Mandarin Christian have suffered greatly since the addition of the high school. While there are still some excellent teachers who really care about the students, many of the teachers could not care less. MCS lacks an actual lab, but offers classes centered around lab work. This is our ninth year at this school, and my 4 bright and athletic children will all be leaving very shortly.

Mandarin Christian School was once a very loving environment where my children were very happy. However, we have been greatly disappointed by [the] administration. My children are no longer challenged, only miserable. The Upper School is of very poor quality. Mandarin Christian can once again become a great school, but to do so, it needs to listen to the needs of its families. Mandarin Christian is simply not worth your time.

My children are in 5th and 8th grade and have been MCS since Kindergarten. We absolutely love this school! The academics are strong as well as the sports and fine arts programs. The environment is supportive yet challenges the students to always do their best. The partnership between the administration, teachers, and parents is strong.

I have a child in the fifth grade at MCS and they have attended since kindergarten. The school management seems to be more concerned with making money and avoiding liability than educating the kids. My child won't be there next year.

I am a student at MCS and it is a great school. I am in 7th grade and my sister is in 5th grade. The teachers are great and help you when needed. They have a lot of patience. I love MCS

MCS is a very strong, Christian school. My daughter has attended MCS for 8 years. The school has a strong focus on Christ's teachings and academics including AP level courses. They offer a well rounded experience with solid academic programs, wonderful Fine Art programs and many Athletic teams. The Fine Art programs (Drama, Vocal, Band, Art, etc.) have been such a blessing to my daughter. MCS offers many clubs including National Junior Honor Society, Photography, Student Leadership Institute, etc. The teacher to student class size ratio allows for a situation where teachers are involved in the students daily success. Parents are encouraged to participate. If we have any disappointments with MCS it would be that many parents aren't involved and the student body is not as diverse (interests, culture, economic, etc.) as we would like.

My children, now in 6th and 8th grades, have been at MCS since kindergarten. They have had only positive experiences and plan to stay through high school. The class sizes are small and the teachers are exceptionally kind and caring. Although rare, when there is any kind of problem, I am approached on a personal level by the faculty and my involvement is appreciated, as we work as a team to educate my children and resolve any issues. The academics at MCS are strong, my childen are challenged and will be well prepared for college. They also receive a well-rounded education, with art, music, Spanish and PE classes. I have researched many schools in the area, and simply could not find a better place for my children.

My childen have been at MCS for many years, and this is the only school that they wish to attend. We have been very happy with the kind and caring faculty and staff. The academics are excellent. My children are challenged and will be well-prepared for college. We are also very happy with the number of athletic and club membership opportunities offered as MCS grows into a K-12 school. My children plan to stay through high school.

This was a great school for my child. My son attended MCS from 4th grade through 8th grade. He then attended Douglas Anderson. He was fully prepared academically, but more importantly, he was prepared spiritually. He was exposed to a great deal at DA but was able to handle it because of his years at MCS.

Mandarin christian is not all its cracked up to be. My child suffered so much at the hands of the students who were taunting her and saying terrible things to her there that if you are thinking of sending your children there i strongly advise you not to.The middle school principal really does nothing to solve the problem at hand and the kids there hardly have a christian attitude.

Strong academics. Strong extracurricular activities. Love the Christian education. Parents can somewhat be involved. This school is pretty expensive and they nickle and dime you all the time. They are very strict with group punishment instead of individual punishment therefore if your child is good he or she will be group punished a lot. Other than that though we love the smaller environment. Overall a great school.

This is the most awesome school. My daughter has had nothing but positive experiences here. The class size is small, the teachers wonderful and caring.

Mandarin Christian School provides a wonderful opportunity or children to receive a quality education in a nurturing environment. The staff truly cares about each child and their individual acamdemic and social needs.

Very good school, good teachers, and students are nice.

MCS is a friendly place, where discipline is a priority. Teachers are well prepared, compassionate, and eager to teach. Now expanded into High School, MCS is a quality school with sports, computer lab, fine arts, and extra-curricular activities for all ages. They are celebrating their 11th year, and have a very positive history, including several accreditations that usually take longer to achieve. This is a serious school for serious students, but also a fun place for children to grow up.

Nice Christian school. My daughter loved it in K and 1st Grade. She had excellent teachers for both years. They had music, art and Spanish class on a rotational schedule. Parents were very encouraged (but not strong-armed) to participate, and we always did. I did encounter one teacher that I felt was unqualified to control and truly teach children, but thankfully she did not teach my child! It has been a couple of years since we attended there. When we were there, security was not tight enough on campus - especially for the classes in portables. I was concerned about that. Things have probably changed by now...

Parental Involvement is exceptional. Terrific atmosphere. Excellent academic program combined with students who are actually under control and ready to learn has made MCS a wonderful experience for our family for 4 years now.

We have been very pleased with the level of academics. The staff is very attentive and involved with the children. Their resources cover all areas. Parents are vey involved and the entire morale of the school reflects this.

The Mother's Morning Out program is a huge asset and wonderful program. The only gripe about the school is the cost. The tuition is enough to take out a second mortgage.

MCS has been a wonderful school so far. The teachers really show an interest in every childs success and they take the time to make sure that each child is reaching his/her potential. It truly is the best of all worlds as MCs provides art, foreign languages and sports. They compete with other area private schools and have attained a great reputation in athletics. Parents are very involved at MCS. The prental involvement is out of want and not need as the school likes volunteers but does not need them to run efficiently. The category of teachers has also been quite impressive with most of them having masters in the field that they teach.

I have been at MCS since Kindergarten and I'm graduating this year(2005). I have enjoyed this school thourughly. It has great teachers and has good sports teams. Our GIRLS BASKETBALL won 53 straight games over the past 3 years. The education I have gotten here has enabled anouther student and myself to go to Stanton college prep's international baceloriate program(IB) which is a rigerous liberal arts study program. MCS has been a great experiance for me and I loved it.

My son just began his first year at MCS as a 3rd grader. Though the grade itself is quite a step up as far as academic challenges, the school and teacher are wonderful. We feel confident that we will keep him at this school indefinately and our daughter will join him in a couple of years. We feel very lucky to have been able to get him in. Such an incredible breath of fresh air after having been in the Public system since Kindergarten.
