The teachers and administrators care about the kids. They try so hard to help the kids in many ways. My children were accepted into Stanton IB from Mayport and the small class size, beautiful campus and caring, highly prepared teachers are all to their credit. There is a wonderful PTA and the teachers are so dedicated as a group. I am excited about all the parents getting involved and there is even an opportunity for dads to come and help out!! My oldest is in 9th grade at Fletcher High School this year and is in Ap and honors classes. She is doing wonderfully, her grades are good and she is even participating in school activities. Mayport played a key roll in making sure she was ready for high school! I have another daughter who is in 8th grade at Mayport. She is involved in their pre-AP classes. Both of my daughters love Mayport they have each met some very nice girls to be friends with and i hope they can remain friends with these girls in high school (2 of them are Navy and have to transfer so we will miss them). I have a 'white non-navy' daughter that attends MMS and is loving every minute of it. She has very diverse friends from MMS just like she will in the world. My husband and I are professionals and we have checked out all the other schools through Magnet Mania. We chose to send our two children to Mayport because of the academic rigor and it fits our lifestyle. (We were not willing to wake at dawn each day so our children could commute downtown.) I started Last year (7th Grade, 07- 08) and am now attending it for 8th grade. I think that its only a bad school if you talk about people, or if you try and start something with someone. Sure there are fights, but what school doesnt have fights? I was nervous about going there because i attened Landmark Middle School there for 6th grade, and i had many friends, and then we moved to mayport district. But my time at mayport ha been very good. I semi love it. We have a 6th grader at Mayport Middle and she is excelling academically. With the Magnet Mania, we investigated our options just to be sure of our decision. We learned that the core curriculum at Mayport is the same as at a magnet middle school and they use the exact same text books! Further, the new Mayport principal (a former Fletcher High School vice principal) is adding advanced study classes to the curriculum. This is my third child to attend Mayport but also I have had several nieces and nephews attend the school as well. My youngest son is in 6th grade and is doing fantastic. He is excelling academically and loves going to school. The smaller class sizes have really been a plus. The teachers are wonderful. There is some-thing available for each child to learn to their potential and beyond. They have an amazing gifted program that he really enjoys. The teachers he has are wonderful teachers and role models. They also have a great band program. In my opinion mayport middle school has evolved into a great school over the past 5 years.the teachers and staff have been working really hard to get that school together and give our students a good education. Two years ago they just spent 2 millins dollars fixing up the class rooms and school building.I personally think that mayport middle has evoloved.”
