Mandarin Middle School Reviews

I love mandarin middle its such a great skool and the teachers ae great they take care of the students and do there job

the excel teachers r spectacular in the seventh grade my child loves them. but she has been bullied at bus stop and school and none of the teachers reconize it. It's an A school but not when it comes to the 8th graders this year they pick on the kids and my child has thought of moving schools evry day

Mandarin Middle is okay but sometimes irritating. Some teachers teach fun with games to study, others will be incredibly old-fashioned and boring, which loses their students' attention, and occasionally makes them sleep....... They're usually great, but my biggest problem is their last minute information they send in the mail not even a week before school begins for some students. And that's what irritated me more than anything bout MMS. School begins in almost less than a week, and i don't know what school supplies to get.

I love mandarin middle so much because it it the coolest school in the world and u have so much fun there i hate summer because i miss school and the amazing teachers i cant wait to go back

I went to this school for all of my middle school years, it's a great school. I am now a freshman, so I still remember what it was like. They have great programs, would recommend this school to anyone.

great school/safe neighborhood/no violent crime/good gifted program...comp. to charter schools

Just a typical Jacksonville school. It's too bad they don't have neighborhood schools anymore. My child did not have a good experience there. You have a faculty that for the most part is just lame to say the least.

I love this school!!!! This is my second child to come thru Mandarin Middle and I have nothing but the highest praise for the staff.

As a mother of a 6th grader, I am very disappointed with this school. They have a very bad bully problem and the teachers are never around to stop it. When I call or go into the office, they just give a bunch of lip service and NEVER follow through. I will never put my child in this school again. I can't wait for this year to be over. It does not matter that the school is an 'A school'. It is overwhelmed with bullies and lack of concern from the staff.

I attended Mandarin in sixth grade(2006-07) and was apart of the Kota team. i had come in the middle of the year so I had some adjusting to do. The students are generally friendly. My favorite teacher was Ms. Albert. She really improved my learning experience there. It was fun school.

i am in the 8 grade there have been there since 6 grade it is a good school just not the food flavor

Mandarin Middle is an excellent, education school.I am proud to have my child attending the school. It is safe and secure, they have recently installed school cameras for observation of the school, which I believe is great. Thank you Mrs.Joy Recla and all the educating teachers.

i attented MMS for 6th and 7th grade until i got into darnell cookman and it was probably the best public school ive gone to since the teachers really want to help you from my experience and thanks to Mr Harrison and all of the kota/supreme hawk team for a great experience

I attended MMS for 6th, 7th and 8th grade, (2004 - 2007) and I absolutely loved it! I did not come from a feeder school, so I knew nobody there, but by my last year I had made many friends, more than I had in elementary school. The teachers and staff are PHENOMENAL. The teachers are some of the best educators in Duval County and beyond. Most of the teachers are happy to help the students and are experienced so they know how to teach without using that FCAT crap. Now, of course, some of the teachers and administrators are not so good, but that's expected with every school. But, the amount of good teachers make up for it. If you are a parent (or student) looking for a new school, I would HIGHLY recommend MMS! I went from MMS to Mandarin High, and I wish I could go back!

A nice school in a nice area. A lot of veteran teachers and experience counts.

I attended Mandarin Middle for 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade and I met a few people who have changed my life. Mrs. Hale, Mrs. Barnwell, Mr. Scott, Mrs. Recla, Ms. Murray, and almost all of the teachers I had while I was there. Coach Fennel, Mr. Dye, Coach Kraatz, this school made the biggest difference in my life out of anything i've ever expirienced.

I have found MMS to be not very concerned about a child doing weel. There is not enough communication between teachers and parents. The group conference is also uncomfortable and makes you not want to go. I have not found a teacher there yet that seemed to really care about the students. Not impressed and can not wait for next year to be over. If you do not make straight A's they seem to not like the student. If you can go somewhere else I would.

I am in the 7th grade and this school rocks ! I love the school amd the teachers espically they set a great example and if you need help they strive to get it for you They are wonderful. The only bad thing that I hate is the FCAT...... All they teach you till march is the stupid fcat that everyone has to take and evryone hates it the teachers do to. Wee all you need to know is that MMS is the best school on the entire world

My daughter has attended all three years and it has been a wonderful experience. The teachers care about the students and keep you well informed about their progress. You can email the teachers too. The principal is great, she knows her studends by name.

I have twins at MMS. I cannot remember the day, till they arrived at Mandarin Middle that they actually looked forward daily to go to school. They both are doing well there. Teachers at MMS notify us if they are having difficulty and readily meet with us. I cannot praise the staff, the principal and her assistants. The school is wonderful. With parent involvement in the academic process all children should do well at this school! Keith Hutson

I am an 8th grade student at Mandarin. I have completely fallen in love with this school! I have great friends and have had the most amazing teachers. They have supported and help me every step of the way! The staff is great and they have not only prapared me for high school, they have prapared me for life! Thank you.. Mr. Harrison, Ms. Henderson, Ms. Greer and last but not least Mrs. Stieghner you guys rock! Go Hawks!

mandarin is the best school ever. i attended mandarin middle for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. all my teachers were the best. the best were my 8th grade teachers they got me ready for high school. i enjoyed going to mandarin. yours truely Brittni Brinkley. i was on Kahunna hawks 6th grade, Tiger hawks 7th, and Sky hawks for 8th.

I'm currently a eight grader at Mandarin Middle, I started this school in sixth grade, There are things I dislike about this school but one thing I have liked about this school is the teachers, they are wonderful. Out of all the the teachers I have had my favorite was Mrs. Price. She really opened my eyes to all of the aspects of language, she taught me that language is really not that hard, that it's only as hard as you make it. At our school we have tons of sports, but you have to a seventh or eight grader to be involved in these programs. We also have awesome electives where you can be inspired to do anything, My favorite was 3D art. But if you plan on joining a club, they usually have a lot of after school activities especially drama club.

I'm a student at Mandarin Middle. This is a great school and I've had an awesome time here. It has great teachers especially on the Xtreme Hawk. I am in 7th grade and look forward to 8th grade but it is sadly the last year and I will miss Mandarin Middle

While considered an A-rated school, I found Mandarin Middle to be subpar. The teachers are overworked and the administration is unresponsive to parents and students.

This school is an awesome school and the principal and all of the teachers and facilty are great!I am very proud to be able to go to a school as wonderful as this one!

I moved to this school last year and I'm in the 8th grade this year. I'm in the gifted program, or 'Xtreme' Hawk. I have so much fun and I'm really glad I'm there. It's a beautiful, fun and very active school

My daughter loves this school and the office staff are super friendly too. The car riders pickup areas are a hassle sometimes because alot of people these days have no manners! Other wise its a great school.

i love this school so much. the teachers are great.its excellent.

I am very pleased with Mandarin Middle School. My son has attend 6th, 7th, and 8th grade there. My son struggled in the 7th grade but with the help from his teachers in the 8th grade, my son is an A-B student. I would like to give a special thanks to Ms. Moses for the everything she did to keep my son on track this year, and Ms. Richardson for allowing my son to come in early to make up work. The teachers are more than willing to help the kids if the kids are willing to help themselves. Keep up the good work Mrs. Rollo

Our experience at MMS has been very positive. The school has 1800 but class sizes are around 20.They do not offer very many clubs but the general education has been very good. The teachers care and problem students are dealt with or removed. Adv classes should be held for students in the areas they achieve and regular for the ones they don't. Not an all or nothing attitude. Too bad Florida doesn't do away with FCAT it is a bad way to evaluate students. This what is used for advanced classes, come on its one test! Safety is not an issue at this school. Very positive experience.

We have found this to be a pretty good school despite what some said a few years ago. The teachers are concerned about the students and do well with what they have. These early releases and having to constantly teach 'Passing the FCAT' is ruining our children's education though. Also, to discuss your child's progress, having to meet with all the teachers as a group is not comfortable, therefore avoided.

Well-run, over-crowded but every school in any city of any size is these days.Teachers interact with students and the community. Excellent program for physically/mentally challenged.

The leadership is lacking at this school.

We are very pleased with Mandarin Middle School. My son has attended MMS since 6th grade and is currently in the 8th grade. He takes advanced classes and has had a wonderful team of teachers for all his years here. He plays football, basketball, and baseball for MMS. They also offer swimming, soccer and volleyball. Our son has many friends that are in the honor society at the school. We have known many parent volunteers. The school also offers a morning and afternoon homework assistance program.

I'm very disappointed with MMS.There is no guidance as far as principal and parent and teachers w/parents. My son is two grades behind I've asked for help so many times I can't remember and do not know what else to do. The assistant principle is very unknowledgable when it comes o knowing what is best for a student . I'm at wits end and have a daughter that is just beginning there. If your student doesn't make straight A's they could care less. I'm wanting to move because of this.

Mandarin Middle school is extremely overcrowded. This makes for many discipline problems. Communication from the school to parents is very poor. Parents are not notified of incidents, usually end up reading about them in the local newspaper. Seems to be poor morale among teachers - overcrowding may have a lot to do with this.

This school is terrible and we should have researched it more before moving to the area within this district. This school offers very limited Art and Music electives. The teachers do not seem to be concerned with the children's education, more about the children's physical appearance. Teachers do not send letters home or even contact the parent if there is an academic problem, and sometimes do not even notify you when there is a 'behavior' problem. Good thing my daughter is in 8th grade and the year is almost over.

This is a large school serving this area. The academic program were better than most in the city with availability of music and art classes for your child. Teachers are caring and provide students with a sound learning environment.

We moved here from NC and based on statistics and local info had been told this was the best middle school in Jacksonville. What a disappointment. The 8th grade curriculum is terrible. No computer classes, no foreign language. This is a very large school (approx. 2,000 students) and very few teachers seem inspired. Some of my child's teachers seem like they are just passing time until something else comes along. Also, there seems to be more safety issues than at other schools we have been involved with. Not enough communication with parents as to school happenings. No regular newsletters. We cannot wait for this year to be over - just wish we had looked in surrounding counties before moving into this district.

Excellent quality of program. Great parent involvement. My son loved it.

Despite the size of this school, there is a 'can do attitude.' Many of the faculty have been at MMS for years which adds to the stability of the school. Wonderful 'Gifted' program. Very active PTA and volunteer programs.

We had a very unsatisfactory time with Mandarin Middle. I put my child in private school. The bullying at this is school is unbelievably bad. The administrators need more training in how to handle this situation. If you have child at this school be sure you stay involved and aware of what is going on. They even had my child in class for learning challenged when he had never even been tested. When we were finally aware this was going on alot of time had been lost. They apologized but it was a mistake that was hard to correct. It is not easy to afford the private school but we are glad we did.

As a parent, this is my first intro to Mandarin, my other children went to Magnet schools. The school is kept very clean, I love the day to day messages on Schoolnotes.com. PTA has a lot to offer for parents to be involved in. Office personnel were friendly and my son is happy.....

Mandarin Middle School has committed teachers who deire to give their students the best education possible. THe PTA is very strong and provides many opportunities for parents to participate. I have had two children attend Mandarin Middle School and was very pleased with the quality of education.

Mandarin middle is a great school. I have had two children attend and looking forward to my third child atttending. All of the teachers that my children have had were devoted to making sure that they achieved their potential and received any extra help necessary.

Excellant teachers and an outstanding PTA. The only problem with this school is over crowding. Duval county must start building some schools in the southern portion of the district

Too big. Halls are gloomy/ kids look very unhappy there. The lunch line is too long, the kids don't get a chance to finish their meal. Schedule is too confusing. A day B days, 1, 2, 3 4, 5 days!!!
