Plans submitted to the city show that the project will be five stories high next to Jacksonville Beach Pier, with the first floor comprising a restaurant, lounge, gym, valet parking and retail space. But the site is on the verge of becoming a real hotel, and plans are underway to build a new SpringHill Suites Marriott. Bhikha said he plans to break ground in spring 2017 after receiving approval from the city of Jacksonville Beach. Groundbreaking ceremony for the new hotel is expected this fall near Springhill Suits, where Jax Pier Lodging LLP has received approval to build a 136-room hotel. It would replace the first hotel on the site, the Vystar Tower, which was replaced in 1997.
The hotelier said that there will certainly be more opportunities for tourists when they visit these rooms, and that the use of these rooms will make Jacksonville Beach a more attractive destination for tourists, which is definitely good news. Bhikha noted that more room capacity could lead to more hotel rooms when it is in operation. He was quick to say that his company was already in the planning phase before the 500 Atlantic Hotel in Margaritaville Beach came into play.
